The premiere in Tuschinski in Amsterdam was canceled due to ‘fuss’, but from Sunday evening it can be admired in its entirety on blckbx, the high-profile documentary Gideon: In Search of the Truth. Member of Parliament Gideon van Meijeren breaks the censorship and lets renowned national and international scientists, with a different vision, tell us how they view the corona crisis.

• Search for answers

Gideon: In search of the truth takes you with Van Meijeren on his search for answers to these and more questions about the corona crisis. Questions that are common among the population, but to which he, and therefore the people in the country, do not get an answer in the House of Representatives. A place where Van Meijeren says he often feels like a ‘calling in the desert’. Where he gets no answers to his ‘justifiably pressing’ questions. Where instead he is invariably framed and judged by form, which makes any form of democratic debate impossible in advance.

• Ministry refuses to answer

At the beginning of October last year, Van Meijeren asked sixty parliamentary questions about corona policy. The questions were about the scientific basis, the experimental nature of the vaccines and the long-term side effects that had not been studied. But also about the usefulness of the QR code and the social disruption and polarization it has caused. Because the ministry has been refusing to answer his answers for months, Van Meijeren started a search himself.

• Dangerous situation

By not answering his questions, the constitutional right to information is in fact a dead letter, according to Van Meijeren. “I can’t do my job if I don’t get answers to questions. Because my main task is to monitor the government, which must be accountable. And if she doesn’t, you end up in a situation where a small group of people has a lot of power, but is not accountable. And that is a very dangerous situation.”
